The Stormy Beauty of the Sun, a poet’s perspective

Thinking about the solar storm this weekend, the northern lights were beautiful, reaching across new skies, where we wouldn’t usually see them! But it’s also going to disrupt communications and devices.

For centuries and millennia, humans have been observing their environment and appreciating their surroundings. Looking at the birds. I’ve noticed even when I was indoors, a bird I was watching outdoors could sometimes notice and it might react, depending on my attention and mood. Was I showing interest or concerned about what it was doing, and scared it away? Or was I acknowledging its rightful place or providing a welcoming space?

For centuries and millennia looking at the sun and the moon and the stars.

Now, so many have their heads down into their devices.

Does the sun notice? Does the sun need our appreciation?
